PHILOSOPHY
to live in harmony with the natural surroundings and the town of Padangbai
to live in harmony with the natural surroundings and the town of Padangbai
Since its inception in 2009, Bloo Lagoon has been committed to the Balinese hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, the principle of harmony between humans, humans and the divine and humans and nature. This applies to our eco practices, our support for the arts, respect for Balinese culture and dedication to our guests.
We are very conscious of our relationship not only to the “green” land ecosystem but also the “bloo” ocean ecosystem below. Decisions that we make on land can have a big impact on the fish, turtles and living coral of the lagoon.
We team up with TUI Foundation and LivingSeas to restore the coral in and around the Blue Lagoon with the participation of our volunteer staff.
Our guests are invited to contribute by donating one or more stars where the corals will be attached to. They will receive periodic reports on the progress of the coral regeneration.
In keeping with our existing practice of doing more with less our houses are small and efficient and we continue to incorporate relevant new technologies to make our place more sustainable.
We were early adopters of LED lights that give good balanced light whilst consuming only 3 watts each.
We are composting and improving the soil and growing fruit trees and vegetables in our organic farm.
The pesticide free environment is friendly to the wildlife that now populates the site.
To conserve water we channel rain and water from showers and sinks to an artificial lake and ponds. These are planted with aquatic plants and fish giving us grey water for irrigation and making the frogs very happy.
Excavation on our very rocky site enabled us to reuse the beautiful stones that we unearthed for building walls.
Our site is designated a forestry conservation zone and is home to numerous acacias, cashews and other drought tolerant, shade providing species. We carefully situated our houses around the trees and integrated them into the layout, and we adopted landscaping with plants that have proved to be well adapted to the windy and dry conditions of Padangbai. The very rich ocean below is also very rightly designated a conservation zone and we strive to impart our acquired knowledge and teach the local village to preserve such a treasure.
